Marley Pipe Systems began its life in 1963 as Marley Plumbing, then part of the Marley SA group. Since that time Marley Plumbing has become the market leader in the manufacture and distribution of plumbing products to the merchant trade.

In 1970 Marley Plumbing introduced the Vynadeep range of Plastic Gutters which rapidly became the preferred choice, most notably in coastal areas. The addition of Marley Streamline to the range in 1987, reinforced Marley's position as the market leader in this sector.

In 1991 Marley Plumbing entered the Pressure Pipe market and now offers a range of uPVC and MPVC pipe, as well as a range of pressure bends, tees, valves and other fittings.

In 1999 Marley internationally was bought by the Etex group, a Belgium based group, already operating globally in the construction and piping industry.

In 2001 this same group bought the global operation Glynwed Pipe Systems, and so in that same year the interests of Glynwed Pipe Systems Africa was merged with Marley Plumbing to form the new company Marley Pipe Systems. This new company offers pipe systems in uPVC, MPVC and High Density Polyethylene in a range of sizes from 16mm up to 630mm in diameter. In addition, a vast range of fittings and jointing systems is also available from Solvent Weld fittings and integral Rubber Ring Joints to Butt welding and electrofusion. Other mechanical jointing systems are also available from top of the range metal clamping systems to an extensive range of compression fittings.

Employing some 400 personnel, Marley Pipe Systems has manufacturing facilities at Nigel in Gauteng Province as well as at Port Shepstone in Natal. The distribution network encompasses 8 branches around the country as well as sales offices in Namibia and Botswana, coupled with an active export division selling into Africa , the Indian Ocean, Europe and Australia .

In June 2003 Marley Pipe Systems became part of the newly formed Belgium based Aliaxis group of companies. Specializing in plastic pipe reticulation systems, Aliaxis operates in 37 countries through over 100 companies, generating sales in excess of 1.7 Billion Euro.

Marley Pipe Systems is therefore now able to offer reticulation solutions from around the globe to the local market, and will continue to grow, bringing new technology and new solutions to market.
